HISTORY The Berlin West African Conference of 1884 recognised the German claims of Togoland (Togo), Cameroon and South-West Africa (Namibia). After the First World War (1914 -1918) and the formation of the League of Nations, these German colonies were taken away from them and Cameroon was divided into two Southern Cameroons and East Cameroon and given to Great Britain and France respectively as administering authorities. Cameroon and Nigeria were granted independence, Southern Cameroons became self administering, Unilever Limited, the parent company of the United Africa Company Limited and Lever’s Nigeria Plantations Limited incorporated a company in England named Pamol (Cameroons) Limited – P(C)L with a registered address in Bwinga - Tiko Southern Cameroons in 1962, it bought over the assets of Pamol Limited Situated in Southern Cameroons. In 1967, following a Cameroonization policy by the State, a company was incorporated in Cameroon called “Plantations Pamol du Cameroun Limited” - PPCL with Registered Office in Victoria (now Limbe) and later on transferred to Lobe Estate. In a convention signed between Pamol (Cameroons) Limited and the newly created company Plantations Pamol du Cameroun Limited (PPCL), all P(C)L assets were transferred to the new company. From October 1987 – Oct, 1996, a period spanning nine years PPCL was in voluntary liquidation before its creditors agreed to buy the company through a debt equity swap in settlement of outstanding debts owed. Hence, in 1996, a new company came into being called “Pamol plantations Limited” (PPL), which now took over the assets of PPCL and the creditors became the shareholders. With the introduction of OHADA, its in applicable provisions, Pamol Plantations Limited (PPL) became Pamol Plantations Public Limited Company (PPPlc).
